The "NEWS" is News!

Growing out of a greater need to communicate, members of the Shawnigan Lake Residents Association, the S.L. Business Association and the Parks and Recreation Commission  and the Shawnigan Lake Historical Society formed a steering committee to investigate and possibly instigate the creation of a Shawnigan Lake newspaper.

Resulting from a meeting on Tuesday February 1st the committee decided to put a plan in motion that will see " The Shawnigan News"  print its first issue within four months.

Steering Committee members Lori Treloar, Brent Beach, Roy Davies, Graham Ross-Smith and Al Brunet decided that, in order to better serve the community, the newspaper should be 100% independent of any group or association, handle its own finances and set its own editorial policy.

The paper will also be a non-profit entity driven by volunteers.

The Shawnigan News is now putting out the call for editorial staff, writers, proof readers,  production and  distribution staff.

Asked if finding content, volunteers and writers for the paper would be a problem Lori Treloar said, “ This community is full of talent and expertise. Many community members have encouraged us to create this newspaper and are anxious to participate.  I expect that the community will be pleasantly surprised at the product that we will create”

Working on the old adage that “Many hands make light work”  it is not expected that any volunteer will be taxed beyond the level of “fun”.

If you do it please report on the need for garbage disposal as a lot of people are using the road banks and area to dispose of really a disgusting amount of liter. In the little park across from Mason's is always dirty and someone needs to clean that up, I picked asome up but I am just visiting the area.
