West Shawnigan Lake Provincial Park

Photo courtesy of the Shawnigan Lake Historical Society. The park shoreline was originally used as a log dump for the Shawnigan Lake Lumber Company when they logged on the west side. A long wooden trestle, built on piles in the lake, was erected in front of the current park site. Loaded rail cars carried logs out onto the trestle and dumped the logs into the lake. One of the company’s steamships then dragged the logs across the lake to be processed at the mill. You can still see some of the original piles in the lake just south of the park.
